If a particular page on a site does not load for some reason or in case a link is not functioning, the visitor will see an error page with a generic message. The page shall have nothing in common with the rest of the site, which may make the visitor leave the site. A likely solution in such a case is a function made available from some hosting providers - the ability to set up your own customized error pages which will have identical layout as your Internet site and which could contain any text or images that you'd like depending on the specific error. There are 4 well-known errors that could take place and they involve the following so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your browser sends a bad request to the server and it can't be processed; 401, in case you are supposed to log in to see a web page, but you have not done so yet; 403, if you do not have an authorization to see a specific page; and 404, in case a link that you've clicked leads to a file which does not exist. In each of these situations, site visitors will be able to see your custom content instead of a generic error page.

Custom Error Pages in Hosting

You will be able to set up customized error pages for all of your domains or subdomains. The function is supported by all hosting package which we provide, so as soon as you log in to your Hepsia CP and go to the Hosted Domains section, you can easily click on the Edit button for a domain/subdomain and in the pop-up which will be displayed, you can pick the kind of error page that should show up - a default one from our system, a typical Apache server page or a customized one. For the last mentioned option, you will need to specify the URL to the page, so when you use custom pages, you should upload the files inside your hosting account first. Another way is to use an .htaccess file located in the domain or subdomain folder with a line for each and every error type. The correct syntax can be located in our Knowledge Base, to help you use this function even if you don't have any previous experience.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers

All semi-dedicated hosting service which we supply support custom error pages and it shall not take more than a couple of mouse clicks from your Hepsia web hosting Control Panel to use this feature. The option is included in the Hosted Domains section of your Control Panel in which you will need to type in the links to the custom-made files using basic drop-down menus and a time and effort saving interface. Needless to say, you have to upload them inside your account before that. In case you do not need to use this function at some point, you will be able to disable it just as easily and choose an Apache server page or a default page from our system to be shown whenever your visitors encounter an error. If you'd prefer, you may also use an .htaccess file to activate the personalized error pages. The file has to contain a specific line of code as well as a link for each and every error type and you can find an example of the entire content for all four error types in our Help section.
